Xavier Grobet, ASC, AMC
I was born in Mexico City where I started my career as a Camera Assistant working on a few of Hollywood movies, like Paul Verhoeven’s Total Recall and Tony Scott’s Revenge.
After finishing Film school at Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City I was lucky enough to shoot Carlos Carrera’s LA MUJER DE BENJAMIN which went on to win a bunch of awards worldwide. Including to for best Cinematography in Valencia Spain and a Mexican Academy Nomination.
My career took off after having shot BEFORE NIGHT FALLS for Julian Schnabel, a movie that opened the doors to more work in the US, I also got a nomination for an Independent Spirit Awards.
Through out the years I’ve shot different sort of movies, from romantic comedies to science fiction, independent movies like MOTHER AND CHILD, to big Hollywood productions like FOCUS or WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT. And the one movie that has become sort of a classic, NACHO LIBRE.
I’ve had a long and fruitful relationship with Mike White, with whom I’ve collaborated in several projects like ENLIGHTENED for HBO and BRAD’S STATUS for Amazon, our last collaboration is THE WHITE LOTUS, season 2.
